about

Halfway through 2021 I left Southern California and moved up to Washington, then three months later I moved to Oregon.
This album came about from the intense mix of emotions caused by moving.
This album is possibly my last for a while. I think after seven years I need a hiatus. I say “I need a hiatus” but I don’t know any other band that released seven albums last year. Most artists leave years between albums, so you’ll probably not even notice I’m gone.
This album could be considered an epilogue to all of my 2021 releases.

The first song was written back in California as I sang over an instrumental song by some other band. I recorded that on my phone and transcribed the lyrics. Austin Bland’s vocals for Track 9 were recorded in California before I moved away.

I made this album while listening to a lot of Ben Frost, The National, and the album HEY WHAT by Low. I must give myself some credit as this album sees me playing with the distortion I was dipping my toes into on Adjacency 1-4 on tracks like “I Am a Fool For You” and “Jericho”. Low and Ben Frost just gave me the courage to go louder and crunchier. Since 2018 my taste in music has been getting slightly heavier each year, so that is fun.

I also think this is my most inspired by 90s lo-fi music. I think Track 6 is the most Jim Guthrie inspired song I’ve made, and I’ve made a 12 minute song about how important his music is to me.

This album is the first in a while where I have not had guest instrumentalists, only vocalists.
This album is one I leave my own perspective on a few times to sing from the point of view of some character from fiction or an amalgamation of friends of mine.
This album is dedicated especially to everyone who helped me get through 2021 but also to everyone who got me through every year before that.

I think the line "Goodbye, to me" could be argued to be the thesis of this album. If I have my say in things I'll be back in one way or another.

God bless,
Fourteen Days.
